Black Mountain Holly Jolly and other Christmas Festivities

December 7-9, 2012…it’s a big weekend in Black Mountain, North Carolina!

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7

First up is the Community Christmas Tree Lighting Party in the new Town Square on the corner of Broadway and State Streets in downtown Black Mountain, at 5pm on Friday. The tree lighting ceremony will be attended by Santa and the Black Mountain BAR (Black Mountain Arts and Restaurant Association) will be serving up hot chocolate and festive treats, with a musical performance by the Owen High School Band. At 6pm, the Santa Parade will take jolly St. Nick from the Visitor Center on State Street to the Black Mountain Depot.

And speaking of jolly, the town’s annual Holly Jolly Christmas Celebration takes place from 5pm to 9pm on Friday, when the fabulous local shops in Black Mountain will stay open and many will be serving refreshments. It’s a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping for everyone on your list, and support small-town local businesses. And at 7:30pm on Friday, Donna Ulisse will perform songs from her new album, All the Way to Bethlehem, at the White Horse Black Mountain music/entertainment venue across from the Town Square.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8

You can catch Santa from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, at the Black Mountain-Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, where he’ll be available for photos with your little ones. At 4pm on Saturday, the Black Mountain Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, kicks off on State Street, and heads from State Street to Flat Creek Road to Cragmont Road.

The Circle of Lights community event, sponsored by the Black Mountain Recreation and Parks, will be at the Lake Tomahawk Park Pavilion after the Christmas Parade. Santa will make another appearance and there will be music, food, hayrides and a bonfire.

At 7pm on Saturday, the White Horse will hold its annual Holiday Homecoming Benefit concert with several musicians after a cider and dessert sale at 6pm.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9

At 7:30pm on Sunday, December 9, the White Horse hosts a holiday variety show featuring B.J. Leiderman, David Lamotte, Screaming Jays, and other performers.
